Jon Vicente Mendez

Biography

Technical Diver and Assistant Instructor (Spain)
Background and Training

Jon has always had a deep connection with the ocean. Growing up on the northern coast of Spain, he spent his youth practicing spearfishing. Years later, after a serious motorbike accident, he discovered scuba diving as a way to aid his physical and emotional recovery—and it quickly became a lifelong passion.

He is now a certified technical diver with TDI and SSI, and an Assistant Instructor with IDEA/WDA. He specializes in deep wreck diving, twinset technical diving, and cave diving, particularly during the winter months.
While technical diving is his primary focus, he also enjoys recreational dives in single tank configurations.
Community and Outreach

Jon is a Co-founder of AbyssTek Divers, a dive club launched in 2021 that has grown into an international community of divers—from recreational to rebreather-level. Today, AbyssTek connects over 5,000 members on Facebook, 13,000 followers on Instagram, and more than 7,000 subscribers on YouTube.
Technical Support and Innovation

He works closely with diving equipment manufacturers, conducting product testing, unboxings, reviews, and providing direct support to R&D departments. His feedback helps identify design flaws and contribute to product improvements, making him a trusted voice in gear development.
Diving Philosophy

For Jon, diving is “the purest feeling of weightlessness and peace, where the only sound is your own breath.”
Among his favorite sites are the wrecks of northern Spain, especially the Diana in Zierbena—a dive that sparked his love for rust, steel, and the hidden stories beneath the waves.
